Koh Mak
Returning to Koh Mak felt like coming home—the very place where the idea for our Coral Fish Gong Grass @ Koh Mak project first took root. Walking along the familiar shores again, we carried both hope and uncertainty, knowing that last year’s El Niño–driven marine heatwave had caused widespread coral bleaching across Southeast Asia.
This visit was more than a trip; it was a mission of the heart. Together with the local conservation team, we ventured beneath the surface to witness the reefs firsthand. To our relief and joy, much of Koh Mak’s coral showed remarkable resilience. While some areas bore signs of stress, many reefs remained vibrant, alive with color, movement, and promise. It was a powerful reminder that when people care, ecosystems can endure.
We were especially proud to see how our fundraising efforts had made a tangible difference. The funds helped equip the conservation team with essential scuba diving resources—air compression equipment for tank refills, proper diving gear, and training to empower a new generation of reef guardians. These tools will enable them to monitor, protect, and restore the underwater world for years to come.
Led by the ever-enthusiastic P’Chai and George, every dive, every laugh, and every shared moment strengthened our bond with this island and its mission. This journey wasn’t just about checking on coral—it was about witnessing resilience, celebrating community, and reigniting our shared commitment to protect the ocean we love.
