Sea Turtle Sanctuary
182km traveling from home and another 30-min boat ride. This is where we drew inspiration to commence our first Below the Tides project. We had the opportunity to witness injured mature sea turtles in recovery at the center, with some having only three flippers, missing their left flip due to accidents. Additionally, we gained insights into the fascinating process of sex determination in sea turtles, which occurs during hatching. Warmer weather tends to produce more female hatchlings, while cooler weather favors the development of male ones. It's truly remarkable! However, due to global warming, there is a concern that the imbalance might lead to an outnumbering of females over males.
